Artist Introduction
Lofi Bee is the instrumental lo-fi hip hop project of Serbian producer Sasa Micovic, based in Belgrade. Blending mellow melodies, warm textures and laid-back grooves, his music is designed to create a calm and atmospheric listening experience. Since launching the project in 2021, Lofi Bee has collaborated with artists around the world and released music with several international labels. In 2023, he also founded Soothing Soundwave Records, a label dedicated to lo-fi, chillhop and ambient instrumental music.
How did you get started in music?
My journey into music started during my teenage years when I was part of a hip-hop group in Serbia. We performed locally and even had some radio appearances, which was an exciting experience at the time. Being part of that scene introduced me to beat-making and music production, and it quickly became something I was deeply passionate about. Over the years I worked on different projects and experimented with different styles, but eventually I found myself naturally gravitating toward mellow, atmospheric sounds, which later evolved into the Lofi Bee project.
Who or what has influenced you the most on your musical journey?
Hip hop culture has always been a major influence, especially the instrumental side of it. I’ve always admired producers who can create a strong emotional atmosphere with just a few musical elements. Over time I also became inspired by jazz-influenced beats, chillhop and the broader lo-fi scene. What I really like about lo-fi music is its honesty, it doesn’t try to be perfect. Small imperfections, textures and warmth are actually part of the character of the sound.
What does your typical creative process look like, from the first idea to the finished track?
My process usually starts inside the DAW with a simple musical idea. I don’t play traditional instruments, so I create everything using a MIDI keyboard, virtual instruments and different VST plugins. I usually begin with a chord progression or a melody, experimenting with sounds until I find the right mood. Once the atmosphere is there, I add drums and bass to build the groove. After that I focus on small details like textures, vinyl noise and subtle effects that give the track its lo-fi character. For me the most important part is capturing a relaxed and emotional vibe rather than making the track overly complex.
What do you enjoy outside of making music?
Outside of music I work in the field of cyber security, which is quite a different world from music production. In a way it creates a nice balance, one side is very analytical and technical, while music allows me to express creativity and emotion. In my free time I enjoy discovering new artists, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
What does the name Lofi Bee represent?
The idea behind Lofi Bee comes from the image of a bee constantly creating and building something. In the same way, I’m always working on new music, exploring ideas and collaborating with artists from different parts of the world. The project started in 2021 and gradually grew through collaborations and releases with several international labels. In 2023 I also launched my own label, Soothing Soundwave Records, which focuses on lo-fi, chillhop and ambient instrumental music and aims to support and connect artists who share the same passion for atmospheric and relaxing sounds.
Why do you think lo-fi music resonates with so many listeners today?
I think lo-fi music resonates with people because it creates a calm and comfortable atmosphere. In a world that moves very fast and is full of information and noise, lo-fi offers something simple and relaxing. It’s music that people can listen to while studying, working, or just taking a break. At the same time, the warm textures and slightly imperfect sound give it a human feeling that many listeners connect with.
