hello out there, I’ve been producing instrumental hip hop since 2016. my beats always have a touch of jazz and boom bap and every now and then small elements of lofi.
in the last few years I’ve released several records and EPs and a whole bunch of singles. while you listen, check out the many great labels I’ve worked with in the last few years. Interview
How did you get started in music?
I played in my first bands as a teenager in the 1990s. We rehearsed in the basements of our parents’ houses or wherever else we could find a spot, and played small gigs. I did vocals and played bass. I played in punk, ska, and hardcore bands. In 2016, I started producing instrumental hip-hop. I love creating jazzy and smooth beats with great samples and my own guitar and bass lines.
• Who or what has influenced you the most on your musical journey?
Music has always been a part of my family. My mother still sings in the church choir at an advanced age, while my father is a jazz enthusiast. During my youth, I played in various bands with my brother for many years. My hometown has always been a hub for bands, so music has always been omnipresent. Since 2016, I’ve been producing instrumental hip hop beats.
• What tool/software do you use the most in your production – do you have a favorite sampler or effect that you always include?
I produce my beats with Ableton Live and the accompanying Push2 hardware. Besides the standard effects, I play all the bass lines and many of the guitar parts myself. My favorite instrument is definitely my Gretsch jazz guitar. In the coming years, I’d like to learn to play the double bass and use it in my productions.
• What do you enjoy outside of making music?
Besides producing music, I’m first and foremost a father and spend a lot of time with my family. You’ll find me at playgrounds and in the kids’ rooms. But my greatest longing is to be outdoors. I hike a lot, ride mountain bikes and trekking bikes, and go packrafting – all year round.
• Can you tell us more about creating the song “ Deep Dive”?
The title of the beat says a lot about the creative process. Most producers are familiar with the feeling when a beat is still a bit rough around the edges during its creation and the sound just doesn’t quite come together. At this point, the options are either to stop producing the beat altogether or to delve deeper and tweak a few minor details. The latter takes a lot of time, but you’re often rewarded with a great result.
