 How did you get started in music?

I got into music in my teens when I fell in love with hip-hop. At first I started rapping, but there was no one around me making beats, so I decided to start producing them myself. That’s basically how everything began.

• Who or what has influenced you the most on your musical journey?

Some of my biggest influences are classic hip-hop producers like J Dilla, Madlib, and Pete Rock. I’m also inspired by more experimental beatmakers such as Flying Lotus, Shlohmo, and Ras G, as well as psychedelic artists like Shpongle and the philosophy behind their music. Beyond that, anime and film soundtracks have had a big impact on me, along with random cheap records and CDs I’ve discovered over the years.

• What does your typical creative process look like, from the first idea to the finished track?

My process is pretty spontaneous. Whenever I feel the urge, I just open up my DAW and start experimenting without much planning.

I often sketch ideas using hardware like the SP-404MKII sampler, building rough textures and loops directly on the device. After that, I move everything to my computer to refine, mix, and polish the track until it feels finished.

Recently I’ve also been using more royalty-free sound packs, but I always try to shape them into something with a cosmic, otherworldly atmosphere.

• What do you enjoy outside of making music?

I enjoy simple things—going to manga cafés, borrowing books from the library, taking walks, and cooking.

I also like camping when I have access to a car. Sometimes I even bring my gear and make beats out in nature (lol).

• Can you tell us more about what music means to you?

For me, music is like breathing—or even like going to the bathroom (lol).  

It’s just something natural that’s always part of everyday life.

At the same time, it sometimes feels like having a conversation with the universe.
